TRIAD - Therapy and Research for Intervention with Autistic Disorders

Therapy and Research for Intervention with Autistic Disorders

Applied Behaviour Analysis

  • » Early (before the age of ¾ years) and intensive (minimum 20-30 hours per week) of ABA therapy is seeing between 40 and 60 percent of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder moving into a mainstream educational setting without ANY extra educational support structures needed. These children become indistinguishable from their peers on all levels of skill, communicative, behavioural and social functioning.
  • » A further large percentage of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder that receive early, intensive ABA therapy move into the mainstream educational setting, requiring only minimal special educational support.
  • » Prior to Applied Behaviour Analysis therapy as a means of intervention and treatment for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, 95 percent of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder were institutionalised, thereby relying heavily upon Government resources.
  • » ALL children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder benefit from ABA therapy.
  • » Applied Behaviour Analysis therapy is based on over 40 years of documented research, beginning with the work of Ivar Lovaas. ABA is a scientific, data-based method of intervention that relies on carefully recording, documenting and graphing results at all times in the therapy process.
  • » TRIAD has the resources in terms of ongoing international training and support via our partnership with Applied Behaviour Consultants, Inc. in the United States to begin an early ABA intervention programme in Durban for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder in the very near future.
  • » Durban has the children in need of this early intervention programme
